A bayside peninsula with a jetty, a lagoon and a Sunday market, on the newest line on the network.

What is Redcliffe?

Redcliffe was the first European settlement in Queensland, briefly, before the whole operation moved up the river to what became Brisbane. It spent a long time as a slightly faded seaside suburb and then got a railway line in 2016, which changed it.

The peninsula runs from Woody Point up through Redcliffe to Scarborough, with a foreshore path most of the way along it and calm bay water the whole distance.

Why go, and what to see

Redcliffe Jetty

Rebuilt and lit at night, with the Sunday markets alongside it

Settlement Cove Lagoon

Free public swimming lagoon on the foreshore, patrolled in season

Bee Gees Way

A laneway commemorating the brothers, who grew up here

Scarborough

The northern end, with the harbour and the better fish and chips

Every way to get there, compared

Including the ones that aren't public transport, because pretending the car doesn't exist helps nobody.

Planning the day around it

  • 🌅 Earliest connection out is around 4:55 am, so an early start is possible.
  • 🌙 The last one is around 7:26 pm. That, not closing time, is when your day ends.
  • ⏳ Which leaves a window of about 14 hours between the first service out and the last one back, before you subtract the travelling at each end.

Work backwards from the last service rather than forwards from breakfast. Missing it here is a taxi fare, not a short wait.

Scheduled times on a typical weekday, counted one way and timed at Humpybong Esplanade, so the gaps are the ones you would actually wait. Check the live board before you go.

When to go

Sunday morning for the jetty markets. Winter afternoons on the bay are close to perfect.
