What is the Scenic Rim?
The Scenic Rim is a mountain range, not a town: a curve of eroded volcano rims running from Mount Tamborine round through Beaudesert and Boonah to the Main Range, marking the border between South East Queensland and New South Wales. Six national parks sit inside it, three of them part of the Gondwana Rainforests World Heritage area, which is some of the oldest surviving rainforest on earth.
In practice it means Lamington and Springbrook plateaus, the farm country around Boonah and Kalbar, and a run of wineries, distilleries and farm gates that have turned the region into a weekend food trail as much as a hiking one.

This is the honest limit of what the 50c network does here. Rosewood and Robina are the two rail heads that get you closest, and neither is in the Scenic Rim: you are still 30 to 60 minutes of road away from the national parks.

The uncomfortable truth for a public transport site: the Scenic Rim is a driving destination. The roads up to O'Reilly's and Binna Burra are narrow and winding, and the whole appeal is stopping at things between the towns.

Tours are the practical answer for most car-less visitors, particularly for Springbrook's glow worms, which are an after-dark trip on mountain roads.
When to go
Autumn and winter, when the humidity drops and the walking is comfortable. Summer brings leeches, storms and road closures on the plateau roads.
Worth knowing
Do not plan a Scenic Rim day around public transport alone. Getting to Rosewood or Robina is easy and cheap; getting from there to a national park trailhead is not, and there is no bus that does it.

Is there public transport in the Scenic Rim?+
Not within the region itself. TransLink services reach the edges, with trains to Rosewood on the Ipswich line and Robina on the Gold Coast line, and some local bus coverage around Beaudesert and Boonah, but there is no public transport running between the national parks, lookouts and farm gates that people actually come for. Plan on a car, a tour or a taxi for that part.
