About The Triffid
The Triffid opened in 2014 in a former World War II hangar at Newstead, the brainchild of John Collins of Powderfinger with the team behind Splendour in the Grass. Holding around 800 plus a big outdoor beer garden, it's one of Brisbane's best-loved mid-size live rooms.
The curved corrugated-iron hangar gives the room its character and its sound, and the leafy beer garden out the back is a destination in its own right. It's a regular stop for touring bands and a Newstead local rolled into one.
On the night
Get there early for the beer garden and grab a feed at Gasworks nearby. Then plan your way back, as Newstead winds down earlier than the Valley, so check the last bus or the last Bowen Hills train.
