The easy answer: both of Brisbane's city racecourses, Doomben and Eagle Farm at Ascot, are right by a train station. The Doomben line runs out to Doomben station beside Doomben racecourse, and Ascot station is a short walk from Eagle Farm, so on a race day you can step off the train and almost straight through the gate, with no car to park and nothing to drive home after a few.

Here is the detail by train and bus, plus the trip home. The trip planner finds the fastest route from your door.

The easy way in: the train

The Doomben line was built to serve the races, and it ends at Doomben station right beside Doomben racecourse. For Eagle Farm, Ascot station on the same line is a short walk away. On big race days services are stronger, and stepping off a train at the track beats circling Ascot for a park.

By bus

Buses also run along Racecourse Road through Ascot and Hamilton, which is handy if you are coming from the inner north or pairing the races with a meal or drink nearby. The planner will tell you whether the train or a bus is quicker from where you start.

Parking, and why the train wins on race day

Race days bring crowds and a few drinks, which is exactly when you do not want to be driving or hunting for a park in the tight streets around Ascot. The train removes both problems, and you can enjoy the day without worrying about getting the car home.

Getting home after

When racing wraps up, head back to Doomben or Ascot station for the train home. On busy days the trains run to clear the crowd. For later finishes or a night that carries on, our last train home guide covers the after-dark timetable.
