School holiday bus timetables

This break's changes · updates automatically

From GoThere Brisbane, the free live journey planner for South East Queensland.

Every school break, part of the bus network quietly changes: school-only routes stop, and several regions switch to school-holiday timetables. Nobody remembers which routes until they're standing at a stop that isn't being served. This page shows the current break's changes, live.

What actually changes

Two things happen each break. School-only services (the routes that exist purely for a school run) stop entirely. And in the outer regions — the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay and Logan turn up most often in the feed — some regular routes shift to a school-holiday timetable with adjusted times. If your route's in the panel above, check the live departures board rather than trusting the term-time timetable.

Filling the break

The holidays are the network's family season: the theme parks run via Helensvale and Coomera, South Bank and the museums are a train ride away, and every option is in the venue guides. Students heading between campuses over the break can lean on the student transport guide. For public holidays inside the break — which cut timetables further — see the public holiday guide.

School holiday questions

Do bus timetables change in the school holidays?+

Some do. School-only services stand down for the break, and in several regions — the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay and Logan especially — regular routes run adjusted school-holiday timetables. The live panel above lists the current break's changes as TransLink announces them.

Which areas are most affected?+

In the live feed, school-holiday timetable alerts most often cover Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay and Logan bus routes. Inner-Brisbane services generally change less, but always check your route in the panel or the journey planner.

Do trains change in the school holidays?+

Train timetables generally run as normal through school holidays — the school-break changes are mostly a bus story. Weekend trackwork continues regardless; see the Cross River Rail works guide for what's closed.

How do I plan trips for the kids during the break?+

The journey planner uses whatever timetable applies on the day, holiday or not. For days out, our venue guides cover the theme parks, South Bank and the museums precinct, including how to get home.
