Is the Airtrain running today?

Live airport line status · flight-day check

The flight-day question deserves a live answer. This page shows anything affecting the Brisbane airport line right now and the next trains actually departing the Domestic terminal — plus the fare quirk and the early-flight reality check that catch people out.

The two things flyers get wrong

The fare:the airport is the one place the flat 50 cent fare doesn't reach — the Airtrain charges its own fare, about $23 one way from the city. The hours: trains run roughly 5am to 10pm, every 15 minutes at peak — generous, but not red-eye friendly, so a 4am check-in means a car. The full picture — both terminals, Gold Coast direct services, luggage-friendly access — is in our Brisbane Airport transport guide.

Flight-day buffer maths

Being one train early costs you 15–30 minutes of terminal coffee; missing one with a check-in deadline costs the flight. Plan the trip with the journey planner, then take the service before the one that “just makes it”. Weekend traveller? Check the trackwork guide too — rail works occasionally touch the airport line, and buses replace trains when they do.

Airport line questions

Is the Airtrain running right now?+

The live board above shows the next actual departures at the Domestic terminal, and the alerts panel shows anything affecting the airport line today. If trains are on the board, you're in business.

Does the 50 cent fare apply to the airport?+

No — the one exception on the network. The Airtrain is privately operated and airport stations carry their own fare, around $23 one way from the city, with kids 14 and under free with a paying adult. The flat 50c fare covers everything up to, but not including, the airport stations.

What if my flight leaves before the first train?+

Trains start around 5am, which covers most departures. For a genuine red-eye, book a rideshare or taxi the night before — there's no all-night rail service to the terminals.

What happens if the airport line is disrupted on my flight day?+

Airport-line trackwork and disruptions appear in the live panel above as they're announced. If the line's affected, allow serious buffer or switch to road early — a missed flight costs more than any fare.
