Brisbane's newest way around is the one people still have questions about: the M1 and M2 metro services gliding along the busway from Eight Mile Plains to Roma Street and RBWH to UQ. Here's the live status, what's actually departing the city's underground bus station right now, and how it all fits together.

The two lines, in one breath

M1:Eight Mile Plains to Roma Street down the South East Busway — the southside's express spine. M2: RBWH to UQ Lakes, stitching the hospital precinct, the city and the university together; it stars in our M2 route guide (the M1 has its own). Both run turn-up-and-go frequencies, which is why the live board above matters more than any timetable. Getting to the RBWH or UQ? The metro is usually the answer.

Brisbane Metro questions

Is the Brisbane Metro running right now?+

The live board above shows what's actually departing King George Square, and the alerts panel lists anything affecting the metro or busway today. Services on the board means it's moving.

What is the Brisbane Metro exactly?+

High-frequency, high-capacity electric services running on the dedicated busway: the M1 links Eight Mile Plains to Roma Street via the South East Busway, the M2 runs RBWH to UQ Lakes. Turn-up-and-go frequency — no timetable memorising required.

Is the Metro covered by the flat fare?+

Yes — the M1 and M2 are part of the Translink network, so the flat 50 cent fare applies like any bus or train trip.

What happens on the busway during disruptions?+

The busway's advantage is flexibility: services can divert around an incident in ways trains can't, so metro disruptions tend to be shorter. Current changes appear in the live panel above as they're announced.
