O-Week: getting to campus in the crush

Semester-start transport, live · February & July

Twice a year, tens of thousands of students hit the network in the same fortnight — many navigating it for the first time. This is the semester-start survival page: the first-timer routes to every campus, the live service changes around them, and the timing trick that beats the 8am crush.

Your campus, your route

Every campus has a full transport guide with its live departures: the universities hub covers all ten, from UQ St Lucia (the 412 or the CityCat) to Griffith Gold Coast (the tram to the door). New to Brisbane entirely? The student transport guide is the ten-minute version of how the whole network works.

Beating the week-one crush

The campus corridors — the 412, the M2, the busway, the G:link — surge before morning lectures for the first fortnight. Take the service before the one that “just makes” your lecture, check the live board before leaving, and for the O-Week nights that run long, last service home knows your way back.

Semester-start questions

How do I get to uni for O-Week?+

Every campus has its own transport guide — UQ by the 412 bus or CityCat, QUT Gardens Point a walk from Central, Kelvin Grove and Griffith Nathan on the busway, Griffith Gold Coast on the tram. Start with our universities hub and your campus's page.

Is the network busier at semester start?+

Noticeably — the campus corridors (the 412, the M2, the busway, the G:link) surge for the first fortnight, especially before morning lectures. Travel one service earlier than the one that 'just makes it' and the crush mostly misses you.

Do I need to sort a concession card first?+

Right now everyone pays the same flat 50 cent fare, so there's nothing to organise to get the cheap fare — tap on and off with your phone or a bank card. Fares and ticketing are changing over time, so check TransLink for the current arrangements.

What if my campus route is disrupted in week one?+

Campus-area service changes appear in the live panel above, and the journey planner routes around them automatically — bookmark it before the semester starts, not during the first disrupted morning.

Live information on this page comes from TransLink's service alerts feed and updates automatically. Plan any trip with the journey planner.
