Schoolies transport survival guide

Getting there, getting around, getting home · live each November

Schoolies week runs on public transport whether anyone plans it or not — the tram is the artery of Surfers Paradise and the trains carry half of Brisbane's school-leavers south. Here's the no-car playbook, the live service announcements as they land, and the answers parents are quietly googling too.

Getting down from Brisbane

The classic run: train to Helensvale, tram to Surfers — about half an hour on the G:link end, bags and all. Staying Broadbeach way, ride the tram through; Nerang and Robina plus a bus cover the southern end. Check the Gold Coast line status before travel day — November trackwork happens.

The night rules

Know the last tram time before the night starts, agree one meeting stop with your group, and keep the live tram status a tap away. On Friday and Saturday nights the network runs later — the NightLink guide explains what — and last service home gives tonight's real final departures from wherever you are.

Schoolies questions

How do schoolies get to the Gold Coast without a car?+

Train to Helensvale, Nerang or Robina, then the G:link tram or a bus to Surfers Paradise. It's cheap on the flat network fare, luggage-friendly, and there's no parking drama at the apartment.

Does public transport run late during Schoolies?+

The G:link runs until around midnight through the week and later on Friday and Saturday nights, and any Schoolies-specific service arrangements are announced in the lead-up — they appear in the live panel above automatically.

What's the safest late-night option in Surfers?+

Stick with the tram along the main corridor — stops are lit, frequent and busy. Agree a meeting stop with your group before the night starts, and know the last service time before you head out rather than after.

How do parents plan the pick-up or drop-off?+

The train-and-tram combination is the low-stress drop-off: no Surfers parking, no schoolies-week traffic. The journey planner gives door-to-door times from anywhere in SEQ, live.
